Program Overview
Cross Country is an excellent opportunity for students in Grades 3 to 8 to improve their physical stamina in a group atmosphere while being a member of a team. We stress camaraderie, ton’s of fun, and boatloads of post-race donuts. Run XC solely or Run XC when Football, Soccer, and other Fall sports permit. Our goal is to win the championship, and we need your help to do it, yet we celebrate every runner’s achievements no matter how big or small! Our patented coaching process transforms couch potatoes to lightning bolts. Training includes themes (e.g. Shark Week, Space Week, Halloween Run). Athletes will learn proper warm up, stretching techniques, and running strategies (Landshark!). 3rd grade athletes will run a 1 mile trail course. 4th through 6th grade athletes train to race a 1.5 mile trail course. 7th and 8th grade athletes train race a 2 mile trail course. Cross Country meets are typically held on Saturday mornings or on Sunday afternoons at a variety of venues including private schools, metroparks, and community colleges. Each course brings specific challenges and strategies. Practices are encouraged, not mandatory, and held 3 times a week at a variety of locations including NorthGate Park, Westlake Recreation Center and LCCC.
